FAQ's

How do I book an appointment?

You can book  a 45, 60 or 90 min appointment  by calling me on 07889 520705 or use that number to send me a text or a WhatsApp message.

You can also  e-mail me at louiseroberts@kilnwoodreflexology.co.uk

I will ask for full payment upfront for your first appointment and provide you my bank account details, after this should you decide to book any further treatments, payments can be made on the day by cash or card.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

I supply everything that is needed  so just bring yourself.  Comfortable clothes are ideal. A general health and lifestyle consultation form will be completed (only at your first appointment) so I can understand your personal health needs.   The treatment requires the removal of your shoes and socks,  then you lie back and simply relax. You can chat to me, close your eyes or go to sleep - this is your treatment and your time, so do whatever feels right for you.  I will cleanse your feet using  warm water, before started with a  series of gentle relaxation moves  which help to warm your feet up. The treatment  itself will involve me applying a range of techniques to your feet and ankle area, including applying direct pressure to various reflexes and the session concludes with a lovely foot massage.  All the products I use are hypoallergenic and include raw Shea butter and organic peppermint foot cream.  Please note the reflexology treatment with hot stones includes a massaging of the calf muscles. Please ensure you wear clothing that will allow me to access your lower legs up to your knee.

What does reflexology feel like?

Reflexology should leave you feeling calm and relaxed. Often people describe a feeling of wellbeing and that their feet feel light and airy. Reflexology should  not be painful, however if there are imbalances in the body certain areas may feel slightly tender or bruised  when worked.  Communication between a therapist and a client is crucial to ensure the treatment you receive is comfortable and effective.  I can of course alter the amount of pressure I apply depending on your feedback.

How many treatments will I need?

This will vary  from person to person.  Whilst some people feel the results of reflexology immediately, others may require a course of treatments, before they begin to notice the benefits.   Most people may notice a difference after between 4 and 6 treatments - but you may not need this many sessions. Whilst I can advise you, the decision on the number of treatments you have is solely your choice.

How often should I get reflexology?

This depends very much on your reasons for  you having reflexology.  If you have a condition that has been developing over a long period of time it may be described as chronic, and you may benefit from more regular treatments to start with.  This could be weekly initially before you reduce the frequency to perhaps a monthly maintenance treatment.  It really does depend on your personal situation  and ultimately the decision is yours.

How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?

I will give you a copy of an aftercare sheet at the end of your first session which provides you with all the advice you need following the treatment.  Overall reflexology is a very safe therapy and suitable for most people. Following a treatment some people report feeling calm and  relaxed, others feel energised and uplifted.   Most people find they sleep really well following a treatment. Side effects are few but if they do occur are believed to be a result of the body beginning the process of re-balancing the systems to heal itself.  Side effects can include a headache  tiredness,  increased urination and even feeling slightly emotional or upset. Most side effects tend to be short lived and usually disappear within 24-48hrs but I am always on the end of the phone if you have any worries.

Can I have reflexology if I have ticklish feet?

Yes, absolutely.  In my experience even people with very tickly feet rarely find the treatment to be ticklish.  I use a firm pressure when working on your feet and this typically alleviates and feeling of ticklishness - if that's even a word!!!

I hate my feet - is it normal to feel embarrassed?

Not many of us like our feet!!!! I have seen many different feet now and each pair is unique. Please don't worry and please don't put off having a reflexology treatment because you are shy about your feet. I am not here to judge and if I can reassure you, I have yet to encounter a pair of feet that has bothered me. It really would be such a shame if you wanted to experience reflexology but missed out because you felt shy about your feet.  Life is too short!!!

Can a reflexologist diagnose?

Reflexologists cannot offer any sort of diagnosis and if you have any concerns about your health you should always consult your GP.  Reflexology is a complementary therapy that can be used in conjunction with traditional medicines and drugs. It is natural method of healing that can help improve your overall sense of wellbeing but should not replace orthodox medical treatment.

Does private health care cover reflexology?

Some health care plans do cover reflexology treatment but you would need to check this with your health care provider and you may need a GP referral to be considered.

Are there any medical conditions that mean I cannot have a treatment?

The following  list are possible contra-indications meaning reflexology may not be suitable for you:

  1. Thrombosis/DVT, severe cases of phlebitis or cellulitis.
  2. Certain contagious infections or notifiable diseases such as measles, chicken pox, Strep A or Tuberculosis (TB).
  3. Contagious skin conditions such as scabies, impetigo or ring worm.
  4. If displaying flu like symptoms/fever or vomiting/diarrhoea.
  5. Recent breaks/fractures to feet/lower legs.
  6. If under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

In addition to the above list if you are considering reflexology with hot stones there are some conditions where the use of heat is not recommended:

            7. Where there is inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis

             8. Any skin condition that can be aggravated by moisture or heat such as dermatitis

If you have any concerns whether you should book a reflexology treatment, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can discuss your individual circumstances.
